Rufus Alfred Echols Jr., 73, owner of Echols Funeral Home, Inc. in Emporia, and Wrenn Funeral Home, Inc. in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and a civic leader, died July 14, 1994.
Mr. Echols was born in Dinwiddie County, Va. He was a past president of the Tidewater Funeral Directors Association.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Tucker Echols; one daughter, Lorraine Dale Echols Temple of Emporia; three sisters, Mildred Echols Konlande and Virginia Echols Corsun, both of Hamburg, N.Y., and Pauline Echols Craft of Richmond; and one grandson, Brandon Alfred Nash Temple of Emporia.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Echols Funeral Home Chapel, Emporia. Interment will be in Emporia Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Emporia Cemetery Association, Emporia, Va.
