James George Kartis, 69, of 724 Hemlock Crescent, died July 14, 1994, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Kartis, a native of New York City, retired as an N.I.S. and D.I.S. agent for the U.S. Navy after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Greek Church of the Annunciation in Norfolk, the church choir, and a former secretary of the church council. He was a member of A.H.E.P.A. and the Cephalonian Society. He was a 1951 graduate of New York University, where he also played varsity football. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the American Legion and the N.I.S. Agents Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred K. Kartis; two daughters, Alexia M. Kartis of Alabama and Jeannie B. Kartis of Virginia Beach; two sons, George J. Kartis and Lee J. Kartis, both of Virginia Beach; one sister, Frances K. Alexander of Cyprus; two brothers, Gus Kartsimadis and John Kartsimadis, both of New York City; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at the Greek Church of the Annunciation by Father Constantine Rogakos, Father Charles Goumeniz and Father Savas Constantino. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. A Trisagion service will be held in the funeral home Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Church Building Fund, 7220 Granby St., Norfolk, Va. 23505. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
