GEORGE C. COREY

George C. Corey, 53, of the 900 block of Tazewell St., died July 14, 1994.

Mr. Corey was born in Greenville, N.C. He was a maintenance employee with the Portsmouth School System. He was a member of Celestial Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Mae Corey; two stepdaughters, Danielle and Chanda; and two stepsons, Torrey and Eric, all of Portsmouth; his mother, Julia M. Williams of Newark, Del.; father, John Green of Philadelphia; four sisters, Nina E. Chandler and Muzella P. Hayes, both of Portsmouth, Prophetess Yvette D. Shands of Queens, N.Y., and Felicia Hoskins of Newark, Del.; a brother, James A. Shands of Bronx, N.Y.; a grandchild, Tiffani Murphy of Portsmouth; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, father-in-law and friends, who all loved him very much and will truly miss him.

A funeral will be conducted at 1p.m. Monday in Celestial Baptist Church by the Rev. Leon J. Boone. Burial will be Tuesday in Quantico National Cemetery. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Serenity Funeral Home and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Family and friends will assemble at 1313 Warfield Drive, Portsmouth, at 12:15 for the processional to the church and Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for the processional to the cemetery.
