Lula J. Rodgers, 81, of the 100 block of Mulberry St., died July 13, 1994, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth.
Mrs. Rodgers was born in Brunswick County, daughter of the late Caleb and Tinnie Jones Clayton. She was the widow of Calvin C. Rodgers and was retired from Planters. She was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church, Carrsville, was Mother of the church and a member of the Deaconess Board, Sharon Missionary Association and Ministers Wives' Club of Suffolk.
Survivors include two daughters, Annie L. King and Pauline Staton of Suffolk; a son, Dr. Elton R. Jenkins of Manning, S.C.; three brothers, Vernell Clayton of Washington, D.C., Ervin Clayton and James C. Clayton, both of Baltimore; two stepsons, the Rev. Robert E. Rodgers of Chesapeake and Junious Rodgers of Carrollton; a stepdaughter, Marie Frederick of Newport News; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pulaski Baptist Church, Carrsville, by the Rev. C.W. Cuffee. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Annie L. King, 601 Brooks Ave., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
