A 36-year-old Suffolk man died Friday morning when his van ran off a rural road and struck a concrete culvert.
Jody Wayne Schenk of Beechwood Drive in Suffolk was pronounced dead of head injuries at the scene.
Police said Schenk was driving a 1988 Chevrolet van east on Holland Road about 2:30 a.m. when he ran into a ditch near Lummis Road.
The van struck two mailboxes and a newspaper box, hit the culvert and flipped onto its side. Schenk was thrown from the vehicle, police reports said. The van was traveling about 55 mph, the posted limit, police said.
