A 12-year veteran of the Portsmouth Police Department, Charles L. Brown, 45, was charged with indecent exposure Friday.
Brown was arrested after an investigation of a complaint from a 26-year-old woman earlier in the week.
The woman, whose name was withheld, said she was traveling south on Effingham Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday when a man pulled up beside her car and exposed himself, police said.
Brown was suspended without pay on Wednesday, pending the outcome of the investigation. He was arrested Friday and released on a summons to appear in General District Court at 9 a.m. July 22.
