JOE LOVE NEW MANAGER OF THE SUFFOLK MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

For Joe Love, new manager of the Suffolk Municipal Airport, no one day is like another.

He may set aside one day for a meeting with the Federal Aviation Administration. The next, he may spend checking on airport operations.

Love, 47, began his duties in Suffolk on July 1.

Location and climate had something to do with his move from Vermont, where he was manager of Rutland State Airport.

``The mountains are close,'' Love said. ``The ocean is close. And temperatures don't dip to minus 25 to minus 40 degrees.''

But it really wasn't the weather that brought Love to Suffolk. It was Suffolk's airport.

``The city has some big plans for it,'' he said. ``They want to make it grow. They want to make it more of a contributor to the economy. There are plans to expand the facilities, and, hopefully, draw more corporate activity to the airport.''

Plans include new hangars, a new automated weather observation system and updated mechanical instruments.

``I think we're headed in the right direction,'' Love said. ``It's going to be more of a contributor to the community.''
