I read with interest President Clinton's comments concerning Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk-show hosts' ``unremitting drumbeat of negativism and cynicism'' and applaud him for taking on bigots who spread their venom without opposition.
They cannot withstand the light of truth, fearing equal time for those they so flippantly malign. Rush Limbaugh responded that he is his own truth detector.
In Nazi Germany, Hitler's self-proclaimed truth detector, Herr Joseph Goebels, minister of propaganda, believed that if you repeat something frequently enough, many will accept it as truth though it may be the most blatant of lies. Herr Goebels' place in history was short-lived. I predict that those of Limbaugh's ilk will eventually self-destruct as well.
His promoters boast of an audience of 18 million people. We have about 280 million, and in our democracy the majority hopefully will always win.
