EXPANSIONS

Ethan Allen, the home-furnishings retail chain, opened a Virginia Beach store at 1554 Laskin Road in Hilltop East Shopping Center. The new store will have a staff of seven designers. Ethan Allen operates stores in Williamsburg and Norfolk.

AD NOTES

Goldman & Associates, a Norfolk-based advertising and public-relations agency, received a contract to market the Hofheimer's shoe-store chain. Hofheimer's, based in Chesapeake, has 69 stores in five states and the District of Columbia.

CONTRACTS

Basic Construction Co. in Newport News received a $774,062 contract from the state Department of Transportation for street paving in York County.

E.V. Williams Co. Inc. in Norfolk received a $15 million contract from the city of Newport News for work on widening Route 17 in Newport News, including grading, paving, signs, lights and utilities.

Henry S. Branscome Inc. in Williamsburg received a $1.9 million contract from the city of Hampton for roadway work.

Blueridge General Inc. in Norfolk received a $701,900 contract from NASA to modify the Materials Research Laboratory building at Langley Research Center in Hampton.

Precon Construction Co. in Chesapeake received a $1.2 million contract from the city of Virginia Beach for improvements to the Laurel Manor/Dogwood Acres sanitary-sewer system.

Mid Eastern Builders Inc. in Chesapeake received a $7.7 million contract from the Navy for electric-energy systems and peaking-generator systems at various locations.
