The team of Mike Cumberledge and Don Coward of Virginia Beach won the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society Region 7 largemouth tournament Sunday on the Chickahominy River near Williamsburg. Their winning catch weighed 20.63 pounds.
Second place went to Don Sprinkle of Chesapeake and Bill Dunbar of Virginia Beach at 19.27; third to Doug Roberts and Ray Moore of Virginia Beach at 16.10.
The team of Jim Bass and Dave Austin of Norfolk took fourth at 15.52, and fifth went to Ivan Morris of Virginia Beach and Bob Harris of Norfolk at 14.75.
The tournament was headquartered at Helen's Hideway.
A day earlier, the 42 boats registered for the annual Small-Boat Marlin Tournament, staged out of Rudee Inlet by the Virginia Beach Anglers, managed only one billfish.
That was a blue marlin, estimated at 200 to 250 pounds, released by Richard Santjer of New York. He was aboard the Fishin' Magician, skippered by Eric Santjer of Chesapeake.
The on-the-dock winners in the division for boats 19-25 feet: dolphin, Dwayne Olah, Virginia Beach, 35.10 pounds, caught from the Shark Attack; wahoo, Holmes Clarke, Virginia Beach, 31.20, Chelsea; and tuna, Mac McCarrick, Virginia Beach, 28.25, Escape.
In the class for boats 26-33 feet, the winners were: dolphin, Greg Huntington, Virginia Beach, 15.05, Ice Man; wahoo, Jim Smith, Virginia Beach, 35.55, Tight Lines; and tuna, Paul Galloway, Virginia Beach, 26.25, Long Bay Express.
