INSPIRATION FOR OTHERS

The June 26 articles by staff writer Jon Glass concerning education of public-housing students should serve as powerful examples of those who refuse to accept the stereotypes of public-housing residents. They work hard, follow their dreams, strive to get out of public housing and return to help others.

Mr. Glass refers to public-housing communities as ``projects.'' Those of us who work in public housing, providing for a better way of life for the residents, like to refer to them as neighborhoods.

Perhaps by continuing to cover the successes (and failures), Mr. Glass can help change the negative images and stereotype. I hope coverage of such issues can help induce all residents (not just kids in school) to pick themselves up and do something for themselves and their families, neighborhoods, communities and cities and our nation.

The three featured students have done their part, for they are role models and real heroes for everyone.
