WRONG MESSAGE

Regarding the article in the Daily Break section by Michelle Mizal where she writes of the thrill of graduation at Tallwood High as an honors student (``The graduate,'' June 17): Tallwood High is not listed in my older phone book; therefore, I was unable to quiz the principal as to how you could be an honors student and be constantly tardy to class.

It would be interesting to have a follow-up to explain honors at Tallwood.

Doesn't this article send the wrong message to our children, or is being tardy no longer relevant in today's society?

As a member of the N.C. Standards and Accountability Commission on N.C. education, I am constantly asked by business where have we dropped accountability for personal behavior and actions from the school system.

I can only assume from this article that some Virginia systems are also loose!

Thank you. I do get my Virginian-Pilot every morning to read at breakfast. I know that the presses roll on time.
