Wayne Edwards, 48, of 220 Presidential Blvd., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 1994.
Wayne was born in Seattle, Wash., but spent much of his growing up years in Anchorage, Alaska, where his father served in the U.S. Army. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 and spent 17 years of his naval career in Virginia Beach. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1987, he was manager of the Norfolk Navy Flying Club. The last several years he spent most of his time sailing his dream boat, Journey.
Survivors include his wife, Karen M. Edwards; two daughters, Sandra L. Norton and Laureen M. Edwards; grandchildren, Brandon, Alex and Joshua; mother, D. Gail Edwards, and sister, Linda Barkley, both of Washington state.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach, on Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends following the Mass. Interment will be Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
The family asks that donations be made to the Virginia Marine Science Museum, ``Operation Dolphin.''
