Alan B. Shepard Jr. became the first American in space on May 5,
1961; John H. Glenn Jr. was the first American to orbit the Earth,
on Feb. 20, 1962. Wednesday's graphic, ``A Look Back at the Space
Program,'' had an error.
Minister Louis Farrakhan, leader of the black Muslim Nation of
Islam sect, visited this area in 1984 and 1988. A paragraph and
headline on a story Wednesday, about his July 30 speaking engagement
at Norfolk's Scope, incorrectly said this would be his first
appearance in South Hampton Roads.
Columnist Tony Snow was one of the speakers at a Southern
Legislative Conference meeting Tuesday in Norfolk. A caption
Wednesday had his name wrong.
Gates at the Norfolk Botanical Garden will open at 5 p.m. today
for ticket sales for The Famous Unknowns; the trio of acoustical
guitarists will perform at the Botanical Garden at 6:30 p.m. A
column Monday incorrectly listed the time the gates will open for
ticket sales.
Ken H. Lees is the new real estate sales manager at The
Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star. His name was misspelled in an
announcement in Monday's Business Weekly.
An F-111 Air Force jet tops the list of displays at Langley Air
Force Base on Aug. 6. An item on Wednesday's Military News page
misidentified the F-111 as a Stealth.
