BELLSOUTH AND COX MAY SPOIL COMCAST'S BID FOR QVC

BellSouth and Cox may spoil Comcast's bid for QVC: BellSouth Corp. and Cox Enterprises Inc. declined to comment Wednesday on reports that they might make offers to buy cable shopping channel operator QVC Inc. The Atlanta-based companies had been partners with QVC in a failed attempt earlier this year to buy Paramount Communications. USA Today reported Tuesday that the companies might join QVC chief Barry Diller in a management-led buyout to halt a $44-a-share offer from Comcast Corp. Comcast, which owns cable TV systems, made the bid to break up QVC's planned merger with CBS Inc. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that BellSouth has expressed interest in a possible bid of its own for QVC.
