Henry Melvin Ambrose Sr., 68, of Moyock, N.C., died Wednesday, July 20, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mr. Ambrose, a native of East Lake, N.C., was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of the Harbor Light Holiness Church. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of WFO Racing Team. He was owner and driver of the ``Junk Yard Dog'' mud truck. He was the son of the late Henry and Rena Sawyer Ambrose.
Mr. Ambrose is survived by one daughter, Shirley A. Elbrecht of Moyock; one son, Henry Melvin Ambrose Jr. of Moyock; two sisters, Mae Payne and Sarah Harrison, both of Manns Harbor; one brother, Dolphus Ambrose of Chesapeake, Va.; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held in the Harbor Light Holiness Church, Manns Harbor, on Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Bobby Beasley. Burial will follow in the East Lake United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
