FUENTES FREE AFTER PAYING $15,000 IN CHILD SUPPORT

Former millionaire businessman R. Alan Fuentes was released from jail Thursday after paying $15,000 in back child support to his ex-wife Barbara.

Circuit Judge Alan E. Rosenblatt allowed Fuentes to go free after arguments by his attorney, James R. McKenry, that the payment amounts to a good-faith effort by his client.

The payment represented about half the $29,000 in back child support that he owed.

Rosenblatt ordered Fuentes to jail on July 15, citing him for contempt for failing to make the payment to his former wife for the care of their 8-year-old son.

Rosenblatt on Thursday also lowered Fuentes' court-ordered child support from $1,500 a month to 50 percent of his disposable income.

He is now earning about $2,000 a month as a consultant to the Heritage Institute, a local defense consulting firm. by CNB
