Two tractor-trailers were involved in separate traffic accidents on Thursday.
One, owned by Premix Industries of Chesapeake, came to a stop on the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway at the I-64 interchange about 12:25 p.m., state police reported. A two-car accident resulted in the westbound lanes.
Tammy Van Dame, a state police spokeswoman, said the flatbed tractor-trailer jackknifed and came to a stop. A 1994 Chevrolet van driven by Caesar Gavoni, 62, of Virginia Beach stopped to avoid hitting the truck and was struck in the rear by a 1986 Plymouth Horizon driven by Beverly Lee, 41, of Virginia Beach.
Beverly Lee was cited for reckless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. No one else in the car was wearing a seatbelt, Van Dame said.
In the other wreck, at about 12:30 p.m., a tractor-trailer overturned on I-664 southbound at the 26th Street exit in Newport News, closing the ramp for more than five hours.
The truck was driven by Kenneth Wilson, 48, of Virginia Beach and owned by Servu Inc. of Baltimore. Wilson received a minor arm injury and was cited by state police for failure to maintain proper control and reckless driving.
