James River Corp. said second-quarter earnings fell 6 percent on increased expenses and lower prices for certain grades of paper. The Richmond-based paper company made $12.9 million, or 6 cents per share, thanks to a favorable $5.4 million settlement on prior years' tax returns. In the second quarter of 1993 it made $13.7 million, or 6 cents per share. Operating income fell 22 percent to $7.5 million from $9.6 million. by CNB
