CHRISTIAN BASHING CONTINUES

It was with concern that I read recent comments asserting that Democrats could do themselves and their country a favor in this fall's election if they could somehow check the religious right. The angst was further heightened by the realization that this newspaper historically condones Christian bashing. Your front pages are usually given to perverseness, as well as your op-ed sections featuring the likes of Morgan, Royko, Quindlen, Goodman, Safire, Cohen and a complimentary liberal-to-the-core staff feeding their looney logic to an all-too-gullible public hungry to gobble it up. You have lowered your paper to the heights of liberality.

Your liberalism was never more obvious than when you supported Don Beyer Jr. and Mary Sue Terry. This paper never blinked while they spewed forth their venomous anti-Christ rhetoric. Your admiration for Chuck Robb and his Washington counterpart, Bill Clinton, is unmistakable, while you seem fond of slamming Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and like-minded people. All they are doing is alerting America to the true state of affairs in this country - and the liberals can't stand it.

So they claim intolerance if religious people question policy, and cry ``Foul'' if they insist on moral candidates. It's mean-spirited if conservatives call Clinton to task on morality, and hatred if they insist on Christian principles. It's OK for whiny liberals to push their agenda for ruin, but it's bigotry if conservatives espouse biblical values.

In other words, your philosophy excludes Christians, and their values, from the political process. This will never happen; so get used to it, and ease up.
