WRECK KILLS TEENAGER

An 18-year-old man was killed Sunday morning after he was thrown from a truck and pinned underneath it when the vehicle flipped off the road in the 1500 block of Centerville Turnpike.

The accident occurred about 4:15a.m. when the driver, Willis B. Hewitt, the victim, Edmond Lindsay, and two female juveniles were returning from Nags Head, police said. Hewitt was traveling northbound on Centerville when his Ford pickup crossed the southbound lane and ran off the road. Police said the driver overcorrected his steering and recrossed both lanes, drove off the road again and overturned the truck.

Hewitt and Lindsay, neighbors in the 200 block of Ewell Lane, were thrown from the truck. Lindsay was pinned and killed. The two female juveniles, whose names were not released because of their ages, were trapped in the cab and freed by members of the Chesapeake Fire Department.

The driver was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. One of the juveniles was transported by Nightingale helicopter ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General, where she was listed in stable condition Sunday afternoon. The other juvenile was treated at Virginia Beach General and released.
