CHESAPEAKE'S PROFITS IMPROVE

   Chesapeake Corp., a paper and packaging manufacturer based in Richmond, 
reported a threefold increase in net income for the quarter ended June 30 on 
flat sales. Its net income jumped to $5.6 million, or 24 cents a share, from 
$1.3 million, or 5 cents a share, in the comparable three months of 1993.  
Sales totaled $236.9 million, on par with $236.4 million for the year-earlier 
period.
