SEARCH BEGINS FOR BOAT

The Coast Guard on Tuesday night began searching for a 26-foot powerboat that was overdue in returning to Belle Isle in Hampton's Back River.

The small cabin cruiser, named the Harbor Light, lost radio contact with marine officials about 8:40 p.m., said Petty Officer R.D. Mills, of the Coast Guard office on Craney Island in Portsmouth. The search began about 9:30 p.m.

Mills said the full-scale search was being conducted between the Poquoson and Back rivers on the Peninsula. Fire and rescue units from Poquoson and from Langley Air Force Base also were participating.

Two people were on board the cabin cruiser, Mills said. He would not identify them.
