A woman sailor serving aboard the carrier Eisenhower has told Navy officials that she was raped by a shipmate in a Virginia Beach park, officials said.
The alleged sexual assault took place shortly after midnight on July 15 and is being investigated by Naval investigators and the Eisenhower's command, said Cmdr. Kevin Wensing, a Navy spokesman.
Both sailors - who hold the rank of E-2 or seaman apprentice - are continuing to serve aboard the Eisenhower. The carrier will return to Norfolk Wednesday from training exercises off Virginia that began July 18, Wensing said.
