JOHN E. SCOTT JR.

John Edward Scott, Jr., 76, a retired mail carrier after 30 years, died July 29, 1994, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

He was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late John E. Sr. and Margaret Middleton Scott. He had been retired from the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years and was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and Bachelor Benedict Social Club. During his early years in the Catholic church he had been a member of St. Joseph's and then St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served during World War II. He belonged to the Montford Point Marine Assoc. and was active with the Naval Sea Cadet Program. He was the widower of Bertha Lister Scott.

Survivors include a son, Rodney E. Willis of Harriman, N.Y.; three sisters, Ledora Robinson of Norfolk, Margaret Johnson of Chesapeake and Harriet Paxton of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Percy Scott and Arland Scott, both of Norfolk. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Joanne Willis of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ The King Catholic Church, 3401 Tidewater Drive, by Father Joe Lehman. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in Riddick Funeral Service, where the family will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday. The funeral will assemble at the church at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. The family will also be at the home of Mrs. Ledora Robinson, 5414 Bayberry Drive, Norfolk.
