Luther Franklin Rochelle, 72, of the 3300 block of Sewells Point Road, died July 31, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Rochelle was born in Durham, N.C. He had retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959 as a QMC after 20 years. He had also retired in 1982 as a lieutenant with the U.S. Government Federal Protective Service and served as the protective service commander for the Tidewater area. He was the widower of Doris P. Rochelle and was a member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korean Conflict. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Armed Guard Veteran's of WWII Era, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4809 and was a life member of military Order of the Cooties. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 5, Republican National Committee, Fraternal Order of Police, Sewells Point Lodge 28, Police Association of Virginia and International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Survivors include two daughters, Madeline K. Rochelle of New York City and Jacqueline J. Rochelle of Norfolk; a son, Martin D. Rochelle of North Carolina; three brothers, George Rochelle of St. Paul, Minn., Hubert Rochelle of Blackstone, Va., and Dennis Rochelle of Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Felicia and Christina Rochelle of North Carolina; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Rochelle of North Carolina.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Fr. Peter G. Magill. Burial will be private in Hampton National Cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
