William Courtney Niland, 76, died Aug. 1, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Niland was born in Washington, D.C. He was formerly of Arlington, Va., where he had been a resident of the D.C. area for 55 years. He was a retired executive with the Washington Evening Star newspaper in Washington, D.C. He was a Catholic, a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus in which he was very active until his illness, a member of the International Typographical Union and Disabled American Veterans, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadette Niland; three daughters, Maureen Niland of Seattle, Wash., Diane Jones of Virginia Beach and Carolyn Frazier of Annandale, Va.; a brother, Thomas Niland of Olney, Md.; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church by Father Timothy Drake. Burial will be private. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today and at the home of Dick and Diane Jones in Virginia Beach.
