James H. Joyner, 78, of the 300 block of Montclair Ave., a retired mail carrier, died Aug. 1, 1994, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Joyner was born in Gates County, N.C. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 34 years and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Joyner; two sisters, Leona Thomas of Detroit, Mich., and Lillie Thomas of Boston, Mass.; two aunts, Henrietta Berrien of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Iris Iris Brinkley of Portsmouth; three uncles, Richard Harrell of Sunbury, N.C., Edward Harrell of Corapeake, N.C., and Roderick Harrell of Greenville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Snyder of Fredericksburg, Va., and Gloria J. Anderson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a godchild, Wendy Lee Forman of Portsmouth; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Third Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday.
