CHILDREN'S THEATER TO PRESENT FREE SHOW

Those Grimm Brothers are at it again - this time with the tale of ``The Golden Goose.''

The tale is being told by Theatre IV of Richmond, the nation's second-largest children's theater, on Saturday at the Suffolk Museum.

You do not need gold for ``The Golden Goose.'' Admission for the nearly hourlong play is free, courtesy of the Suffolk Art League.

``The play is based on the Grimm stories about ``Simpleton and the Golden Goose,'' said Ford Flannagan, 38, of Hopewell, who wrote the book and lyrics and directs the show. ``It has nothing to do with the goose that laid the golden egg.''

The story takes place in a gloom-filled kingdom, the result of a spell cast by an evil jester.

The queen holds a contest to find someone to break the spell, which can be done by making the melancholy princess laugh.

Simpleton, the hero of the tale, is aided by the title character.

In one scene, ``the jester grabs the goose and chases him,'' Flannagan said. ``One by one, people join until we have a long chain of people.''

He describes ``The Golden Goose'' as a ``loose, use-your-imagination type of show.'' MEMO: The Suffolk Museum and the Suffolk Art League present ``The Golden

Goose'' at 11 a.m. Saturday at the museum, 118 Bosley Ave. Admission is

free. For information call 925-0448.
