HAROLD T. THOMPSON

Cmdr. Harold T. ``Tommy'' Thompson, USN (Ret.), 72, died Aug. 2, 1994, in a Norfolk hospital.

He was born in Woodbine, Iowa, and retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years. He was also retired from the Norfolk City Public Schools as a teacher at Maury High School, where he taught Naval Science. He was an instructor in the NJROTC and a volunteer at the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society as a widow assistant. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta ``Becky'' Thompson; a daughter, Barbara Hierholzer of Camarillo, Calif.; two sons, Richard D. Thompson and Timothy C. Thompson, both of Norfolk; and six grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Father John J. Dorgan and Father Art Conrad. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the church from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday to receive friends with a Christian wake service to follow at 7:30 p.m. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Hampton Roads Auxiliary, Navy-Marine Corps Relief, 7920 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23505 in memory of Tommy Thompson. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
