A gunman robbed Home Savings Bank Wednesday afternoon and fled with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.
The man entered the lobby of the bank at 1455 N. Main St. about 12:35 p.m., approached a teller, put a handgun and a bag on the counter and demanded money.
After the teller put cash in the bag, the suspect fled on foot, police said.
No one was injured. Bank officials said they did not know whether any customers were in the bank.
The bank closed after the holdup but was scheduled to reopen today, said bank spokesman John C. Hill.
The suspect was described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 170 to 190 pounds, with a light beard and mustache.
He was wearing sunglasses and had a dark cloth draped over his head, with a dark baseball cap turned backward over it.
Police said security cameras captured a clear image of the gunman's face, which was not covered.
Anyone with information about the holdup should call Crime Line at 539-1222 or the Suffolk Police dispatcher at 925-6350.
