FEDERAL RETIREES COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR TAX REFUNDS

Federal retirees who paid Virginia income taxes during the years 1985, 1986, 1987 or 1988 on retirement or pension benefits from a federal retirement system may be eligible to receive a cash settlement from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Eligible retirees who have been mailed the necessary forms and need assistance in filing them are invited to attend the next meeting of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1293, to be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Simonsdale Civic Club, 5006 Vick St.

If you think you are an eligible retiree, but have not received any forms in the mail by Monday , you can have the forms mailed to you by calling 1-800-730-8730. In order to be eligible to obtain any refund, a taxpayer must file one of these three forms by Nov. 1.
