THOMAS J. BOYER

Cmdr. Thomas Joseph Boyer, USN (Ret.), 47, a former resident of the Bayview section of Norfolk, died Aug. 3, 1994, in Bethesda, Md.

Cmdr. Boyer was born in Patuxent River, Md., and retired in 1987 from the U.S. Navy after 14 years. At the time of his retirement he served as a dentist and taught at the School of Dentistry at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. He was a member of McLean Bible Church in McLean, Va. He was a 1965 graduate of Granby High School, 1969 graduate of Old Dominion University and 1973 graduate of Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He was a board certified dentist and endodontist, member of the American Dental Association and the American Medical Association. He grew up in the Bayview area of Norfolk and was a former Boy Scout. He attained the Eagle Scout rating and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and served as its former treasurer. He had served aboard the USS Mount Whitney.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Crane Boyer of Fairfax; two daughters, Pamela S. Boyer of Woodbridge, Va. and Christine A. Boyer of Fairfax, Va.; and his mother, Louise Hannah Boyer of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 1p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Pastor Richard C. Parke. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. The family will be at his mother's residence on Chesapeake Blvd. in Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the McLean Bible Church Building Fund, 850 Balls Hill Road, McLean, Va. 22101, in memory of Dr. Tom Boyer, DDS.
