Police have charged three people, including a juvenile, with the murder of Steven Smith on July 12.
Arrested were Nathaniel Pierce, 24, Reginald Lee Fletcher, 20, and a 15-year-old whose name is being withheld. Pierce and Fletcher live on Rochester Street in Newport News.
All three have been charged with one count of murder, three counts of maiming and four counts of use of a firearm in a felony.
Smith, 19, and four friends were standing outside a friend's townhouse in the 4700 block of Marshall Ave. just before 10 p.m. when six young men walked up and opened fire, police said. Smith was shot in the head and died at Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
Maurice Johnson, 14, Quentin Royal, 21, and Allen Stones, 17, were wounded.
Witnesses told police the men who gunned down Smith shot him by mistake. Smith's friends said the bullet that killed Smith was intended for a friend who had fought with one of the six gunmen two days earlier.
