A pizza delivery driver was shot in the face late Saturday after completing a delivery in South Norfolk, police said.
Ronald Schwarlztrauber, whose age could not be confirmed, spent Saturday night in stable condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
``He's a damn lucky guy,'' said police spokesman Richard Black. ``The bullet went in near his nose and exited near his ear.''
Schwarlztrauber was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon.
The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Grady Street at the Grady Apartments.
Black said Schwarlztrauber had just made a delivery and was getting into his pickup to leave when someone, yelling from behind a dumpster, ordered him to stop.
Schwarlztrauber ignored the demand, got in his truck and prepared to drive away. The man who had yelled at him then fired at least twice.
``The first bullet hit the truck,'' Black said. ``The next hit him.''
Police said the gunman used a .32 caliber handgun.
The motive is believed to have been robbery, although the truck Schwarlztrauber was driving did not have any logos or signs.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call police at 547-6161 or Crime Line at 487-1234.
