Lafayette Villa Health Care Center received first-place recognition for the 1994 Community Involvement Award in the categories of year-round public relations and newsletters from the Virginia Health Care Association.

Glenn D. Sessoms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Sessoms of Norfolk, has been promoted to vice president of retail marketing and operations for the Federal Express Corp. Sessoms, a graduate of Virginia State University, has been managing director of the Piedmont District in the company's southern region since 1988. MILITARY PEOPLE

John S. Correll of Norfolk received the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award July 19 for his work as housing manager for Commander, U.S. Naval Activities, United Kingdom. He was cited for being instrumental in expanding and improving the operation of the housing referral office which serves sailors and their families assigned to London.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Katherine A. Baez, daughter of Mary Y. Miller of the 1600 block of Kingston Ave., recently received the Navy Achievement Medal for superior performance of duty while serving as an instructor at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in Norfolk.

Marine Lt. Col. David R. Maltby, son of David R. and Rita S. Maltby of the 4500 block of Gosnold Ave., recently graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Ramon L. Baez, son of Ramon L. and Margaret W. Baez of the 9200 block of Buckman Ave., recently received the Navy Achievement Medal for superior performance of duty while serving as a career counselor at Naval Submarine Support Facility in Groton, Conn.

Navy Hospitalman Arthur R. Coffman, son of Arthur R. Coffman Sr. of the 1400 block of Mellwood Court, recently graduated from Field Medical Service School at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher O. Dawson, a 1990 graduate of Lake Taylor High School, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Marine Pfc. Tito J. Boykins, grandson of Marcus E. and Doris M. Boykins of the 100 block of Kidd Blvd., graduated from the Unit Diary Clerk's course at Marine Corps Service Support Schools at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Seaman Shirley G. Davis-Boyd, daughter of Barbara J. Grandison of the 7900 block of Bi County Road, was recently promoted to her present rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Waverly Brooks, son of Ida M. Brooks of the 1100 block of Hugo St., was recently promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the aircraft carrier George Washington. CAMPUS NOTES
