TANNERS CREEK ELEM. INEZ BLOUNT-MASON

INEZ BLOUNT-MASON

Birthplace: Norfolk

Birthdate: Jan. 23, 1955

Family: Husband, Glen Mason Jr., no children

Pets: none, lots of plants

Education: Bachelor's degree from Norfolk State University in special education; master of education degree from University of Virginia in administration.

Previous position: Principal of Stuart Early Childhood Center for a year. Before that, she was principal at Chesterfield Heights and at Little Creek elementary schools. She taught special education at Little Creek Primary and at Bay View Elementary and was an administrative intern at Larchmont.

Goals: ``To strengthen school and community relations, helping students to achieve high academic levels and to provide an experience for students, parents, teachers and the administration so that learning is a lifelong process.''

Obstacles: ``None that I can think of. Being that I came from Little Creek, which at the time had 1,400 children, I feel I can manage just about anything. With 750 students here it should be no problem. My only concern is time management, being pulled in many different directions by different factions.''

Proudest accomplishment as an educator: ``When I was at Chesterfield Heights, we had a very small percentage of the community participating in school functions and of parents actually joining the PTA. In 1993, Chesterfield won a trophy for the highest increase in PTA membership of any school in the city. It was quite an experience because people told me it couldn't be done.''

Hobbies: Reading, walking and shopping.

Book you'd recommend: For children, ``Amazing Grace,'' about a little girl who finds out she can be anything she wants. For adults, ``Multiple Intelligences, Theory and Practice.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photo
