Education: Bachelor's degree in English from Norfolk State College; master's in education from Old Dominion University. Currently a doctoral student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Previous position: Assistant principal at Booker T. Washington High School for seven years. In her 26 years with Norfolk schools, she has taught English at Northside and Blair, where she was English department chairwoman. She also was a language arts teacher specialist and a reading consultant for grades K-12; a content reading specialist at Blair; and a Chapter 1 middle school teacher specialist.

Goals: ``To continue to allow students to explore the capabilities of modern technology, to increase parental and community involvement and to continue to provide a challenging academic program that will meet the need of all of our students.''

Obstacles: ``I prefer to see things as challenges. The main challenge is to help the staff and the community reach a consensus on establishing and implementing goals and maintaining a focus on those goals.''

Proudest accomplishment as an educator: ``I am proud of all of my various positions I've held in the system that have helped me become knowledgeable of the community, the instructional programs and the changing needs of our students and staff.''

Hobbies: Reading all types of books.
