Christopher Plummer, best known for his lead man's role in the film ``The Sound of Music,'' has helped the Virginia Beach-based Family Channel break its long winless streak in the annual Emmy Awards contest. Plummer's narration of Family's ``Madeline'' cartoon series won an Emmy in the outstanding voice-over performance category, the network said Tuesday.
The Emmy is the first for a Family Channel show. Pat Robertson launched the cable network in 1977 as a division of Christian Broadcasting Network. Now it's a unit of the Robertson-led for-profit International Family Entertainment Inc.
Plummer will get the award at an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' banquet Sept. 10 in Pasadena, Calif. The actual Emmy Awards show, at which the better-known awards such as best actor and best series will be announced, will be televised Sept. 11.
Plummer won one previous Emmy, in 1977 for his role in a short series called ``The Moneychangers: The Big Event.'' He's won Tony and Drama Desk awards too. by CNB
