CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Tuesday:

Motion to appropriate $70,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund for the continued removal and replacement of underground petroleum storage tanks. This year's project identified the Coast Guard base, located at First and Wythe streets, and the Park Maintenance Facility on Victory Boulevard for tank removal. Approved, 6-0

Motion to appropriate $50,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund for asbestos-related projects in city buildings. Projects identified for this year include air monitoring at the Portsmouth Civic Center. This project is required by the asbestos operations and maintenance program. Approved, 6-0

Motion to convey property located at the northwest corner of High Street and Cedar Lane to Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The Towne Development Corp. has made an offer to purchase this property. Approved, 6-0

Motion to transfer $20,000 from the Grants Contingency Account to cover the cost of hiring a planner/firm to develop a shoreline access plan for the city. The grant will be matched with $20,000 of in-kind services provided by planning staff. No local cash match is required. Approved, 6-0
