Emilie Jane Datu Martinez, 10, of the 1600 block of Kitimal Drive, died Aug. 11, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
She was born in Houston, Texas. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach and was a rising fifth-grader at Ocean Lakes Elementary School. She was involved in the President's Council on Physical Fitness and was a Girl Scout.
Survivors include her mother, Elaine D. Martinez; father, Miguel A. Martinez; sister, Gwendaline M. Martinez; and maternal grandmother, Cecilia J. Datu, all of Virginia Beach; paternal grandparents, Juvencio and Eugenia Martinez of Salinas, Puerto Rico; maternal great-grandparents, Natividad and Salvador Datu of Houston; paternal great-grandmother, Gena Rivera of Salinas, Puerto Rico; nine aunts, Arlene Datu, Maryrose Datu, Emalyn Datu, all of Virginia Beach, Noemi, Mabel, Rosemary and Margie, all of Rochester, N.Y., Daiana of Fort Robinson, Texas, Mercedes of Salinas, Puerto Rico; and three uncles, Neil Datu of Virginia Beach, Ray of Rochester, N.Y., and Jose of Salinas, Puerto Rico.
A Christian Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Church of the Ascension Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, by Father James E. Parke and Father Merritt P. Jones. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Friends may join the family at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, for visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
