HARRIETT B. COFER

Memorial services for Harriett Beverly Cofer, formerly of Virginia Beach, will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Lubbock, Texas, with the Rev. Bill Fleming and the Rev. Charles Lutrick officiating.

Mrs. Cofer died Saturday, Aug. 13, 1994, at Lubbock Hospitality House. The body was donated to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

She was born Oct. 3, 1902, in Wise, Va., and moved to Lubbock from Virginia Beach in 1992. Her husband, Harry Read Cofer, preceded her in death in 1943. Mrs. Cofer was a member of First Baptist Church, Norfolk.

She graduated from Radford State Teachers College, Radford, Va., and taught school in Virginia. Throughout her life she served in many leadership roles in her church. Mrs. Cofer was a member of the Women's Club and several national music organizations for more than 40 yers.

Survivors include a daughter, Bette Garst; a granddaughter, Karen Talley; and a great-grandson, Cameron Talley, all of Lubbock.

The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Memorials to the Virginia Symphony are suggested.
