RUSSELL S. BRENTLINGER

Russell S. ``Sid'' Brentlinger, 58, of 604 Timothy Ave., a retired chief machinist mate, USN, died Aug. 14, 1994, at the VA Hospital, Hampton, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Brentlinger was born in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Ivan and Marie Brentlinger, both of whom predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his son, Daniel K. Brentlinger.

Sid retired from the Navy in 1978, after 20 years' service. He was a member of VFW Post 3160, American Legion, and lifetime member of the DAV and IOOB. He served on many destroyers and was a Vietnam veteran. He was Protestant by faith.

Survivors include his beloved Geraldine, of 25 years; five sisters, Doris Henry, Gloria Cornell, Judy Phillips, Donna Heindel and Linda Kitchen, all of Ohio; two brothers, Ronald Brentlinger and Max Brentlinger of Ohio; three grandchildren, Monique Brentlinger, Amanda Brentlinger and Anthony Brentlinger of Smithfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
