MARY E. SMITH

Mary E. Smith of the 2900 block of Magnolia St., died Aug. 12, 1994, in Nokesville, Va.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Portsmouth, was the widow of James L. Smith Sr. She was retired from the Holiday Inn food service department. She was an active member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and a member of the Beautification Club.

She is survived by two sons, Clifford Smith of Albany, Ga., and James L. Smith of Nokesville; two sisters, Helen G. Banks of Portsmouth and Laura G. Banks of Suffolk; one brother, Wiley T. Griffin of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church by the Rev. E.T. Knight. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The remains will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rogers Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
