Seaman Victor P. Kumalae, center, received the Coast Guard
Commendation Medal on Monday at Coast Guard Station Little Creek for
rescuing a swimmer, Lacy L. Weeks, left, who was caught in strong
currents of the Chesapeake Bay on Aug. 3, 1993. Kumalae received the
medal from Capt. Robert B. Hurwitt, chief of the search and rescue
branch of the 5th Coast Guard District.
