INCHON'S FINAL RETURN

ILLUSTRATION: Color staff photo by Motoya Nakamura

Members of the Inchon crew picked up where they left off Wednesday,

joining family and friends they left behind two months ago for

special duty off Haiti. The helicopter and troop carrier had just

finished six months at sea - and a sweet if shortlived reunion -

before the sudden Caribbean assignment. At 24, the Inchon is now old

enough to be removed from service, but the Navy has granted it new

life - conversion into a mine warfare command ship. Taking its place

in the multinational effort to restore Democracy in Haiti is one of

the Navy's most modern amphibious carriers - the Wasp. For a

detailed look at this high-tech Marine delivery ship, see the

full-page color graphic on Page A10.
