I received a piece of trash from the Conservative Majority '94 signed by Ollie North. A couple of excerpts:
``The incumbent Charles Spittal Robb (Lyndon Johnson's son-in-law) is a liberal's liberal.''
``Robb picks up the phone and calls one of the insider PACs, or one of Big Labor's political slushfunds, or some radical homosexual or feminist special interest and . . . boom . . . $1,000 or $5,000 is on his desk the next day.''
``The Democrats' welfare scheme actually encourages poor women to have children out of wedlock.''
There is more, but you should get the message. Individuals elected to public office must be neutral and represent the entire populace. I hope that Ollie North's mud-slinging lost the votes of the gay community, women in general, labor unions and the poor. Mr. North's group has raised 80 percent of his election funds from outside Virginia. Mr. North should tell us where his funds come from.
We don't need personnel of Mr. North's caliber representing us in Congress! He tugs at our patriotism in relating his military service. I don't see how that qualifies him to be a senator. He lied to Congress. How do we know he isn't lying now? He stated he was doing only what he was ordered to do. Military personnel know you don't blindly follow illegal orders.
I don't understand why retired military (I served 22 honorable years in the Navy) support Mr. North. I place him in the same ``class'' as G. Gordon Liddy. Wake up, Virginia! After election, it's too late.
