NBC affiliate WAVY-TV reached all the way to Houston on Friday to hire a news director to succeed the recently departed Bob Cashen.
Gary Stokes, assistant news director at KTRK in Houston since July 1993, will begin his duties at Channel 10 on Sept. 6, said WAVY's promotion and marketing manager, Michael A. Mastrullo.
Stokes will not need directions to the WAVY newsroom.
He was the executive producer for Channel 10's newscasts from 1989 through 1991. He left for a similar position at a Baltimore television station, WJZ, and then moved to the Houston station, an ABC affiliate.
``I left a lot of good people behind when I left WAVY in 1991 and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them again,'' Stokes said. by CNB
