Regarding columnist Guy Friddell's comments (Aug. 11) on the subject of admitting Shannon Faulkner to The Citadel: In spite of the ravings of Rep. Pat Schroeder and other feminists of her ilk, the truth is that the readiness of our armed forces has been diminished, not enhanced, by the increasing role of women; the effectiveness of the service academies, Navy, Army and Air Force, has been diminished, not enhanced, by the admission of women; and the effectiveness of The Citadel and VMI will be diminished, not enhanced, when women are admitted to those two institutions.
