ROBERT L. STEPHENSON

Dr. Robert L. Stephenson, 57, of the 4500 block of Gleneagle Drive, a veterinarian, died Aug. 20, 1994, in Virginia Beach General Hospital. Dr. Stephenson was born in Smyth County, Va., and practiced veterinary medicine for 29 years in Kempsville.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret C. Stephenson, a daughter, Mary Beth Stephenson of Blacksburg, Va., a son, William David Stephenson of Virginia Beach, two sisters, Peggy Stephenson of Arlington, Va., and Sandra Long of Norfolk, and a brother, Roy S. Stephenson of Saltville, Virginia.

Dr. Stephenson was a trustee at Providence Presbyterian Church. He was active in all fields of veterinary medicine and was selected the Veterinarian of the Year for 1991 for the State of Virginia. He was a former member of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club, and also served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1994, in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Robin E. Wooddell. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1994, in Ridgedale Cemetery, Route 3, Saltville, Va., by the Rev. Jeffery Jones.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, 1994. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, or the College of Veterinary Medicine, Robert L. Stephenson Scholarship Fund, c/o Dean's Office, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va. 24061.
